What to do if your girlfriend's pregnant

Is Your Girlfriend Pregnant?

You think she’s pregnant. Not sure what to do? The two of you can get through this. She needs you now more than ever. You can be there for her with the emotional and physical support she needs, no matter her choice. Here are some tips on how you do this. First, help her request an appointment for free pregnancy testing and meet with a client advocate to talk about it. Remember, you can talk about all your options and you don’t have to go through this alone.

What to do:

  • Talk with her and listen to her. Keep the lines of communication open between the two of you at all times. Now isn’t the time to close yourself off emotionally because this situation involves both of you.
  • Be honest with her and yourself and share what you’re feeling. You’ll be surprised at what you learn about yourself and how much it will help her to know that you share the same concerns.
  • It’s important to discuss the situation with parents and others who’ll be directly affected and may be able to offer support, even if you don’t think they will right now. Keeping this a secret will only add to your stress.
  • You can also talk with a client advocate at the Center who cares about what you’re going through. Please call us at 310-320-8976.

What Not To Do:
It may be tempting to run from your responsibilities, but the more you try to avoid this situation, the harder things may get. You may not feel you’re ready for such a big responsibility emotionally, financially, or have the maturity level to be a good father. If you want  to talk to someone about your options, please call us at the Center. A caring client advocate can take the time to hear your feelings and concerns.
